Ololosokwan
The rains are finally over, the village will have to repair the many roads that the rains have damaged, however the grass is tall and green.
We have delivered the sign that will be erected at the entrance to the village to request all visitors to respect the village values, look after the natural resources, not to bring in plastic bags and not to throw cigarette butts in the village!
Together with Oxfam, we are creating a museum which will provide the Maasai with an opportunity to document their culture and their origins. The Maasai culture has changed quite considerably over the years of globalization. The museum will document the original culture of the Maasai for those who have now been educated the western way.
The cattle dip has been repaired allowing the community to regularly dip their cattle. Apart from tourism, this community depend on the health of their cattle to survive.
Piyaya/Suyan
A joint project with the village, together with the school children, has been initiated to spend a day cleaning the village, collecting all the plastic bags that have accumulated in the fences and bushes. At the end of the day, everyone relaxes under the stars and watches a film about wildlife and its' environment.
Mara/Machochwe
William and Gladys are returning to the village of Machochwe to provide more seeds and some foot operated water pumps. They will also spend some time advising the villager together with the district agricultural officer on better farming techniques..
Matemwe
Malaria, the biggest killer in the world and its carrier, the mosquito regularly visit the nearby village. HGF have a plan: the mosquito net is going to be introduced to every household near Matemwe. We will work together with all the hotels and lodges and provide a means for any guest staying in the lodge to donate a mosquito net to a family.
The Matemwe Turtle Project had their annual turtle hatching event where over 100 young turtles hatched from their eggs and dig their way out of the hole to leave Matemwe beach and swim out to sea.
