William hands over the donated pipes to the farmer groups

A group of farmers in Merenga were kindly donated an irrigation pipe for their farm by travelers who were staying in one of the tourists camps in the Serengeti National Park.

Certain farms in Merenga are equipped with small foot pumps that pump water from small rivers nearby to their farms, but most farmers have to manually pump water into canisters and water each plant by hand.  With the donated irrigation pipe the group of farmers in Merenga will be able to pump water to the top section of their farm where the water will flow down the gentle hillside into irrigation ditches that will water their valuable crop.

Responsible tourism is about having a positive impact when visiting a country, if you would like to donate seeds or equipment to any of the farmers that are a part of Honeyguide’s projects, please contact us >
